The current LTS (long time support) version is Ubuntu 21.04 LTS. I like to use Ubuntu, as it is easy to handle, and offers mix of stable & reasonably recent packages. You specify a box environment and operating configurations in your Vagrantfile. As you picked Ubuntu 14.04, Vagrant will try to install it: as it won't find a corresponding box on your computer, it will fetch it directly from the catalog (this can take a while according to your connection speed), and boot it once the download is over. If I vagrant ssh into the box I only see this in /var/log/syslog: Boxes are the package format for Vagrant environments. I upgraded my virtualbox to 6.1.32-dfsg-1~ubuntu1.21.10.1 (I think, from 6.1.18 before) and now the vagrant boxes are not available any more in the browser via the box-IP like it used to work before for years.
